ANT TREATMENTS

In Australia there are about 3000 species of ants that are known. Ants are a social insect that live in nests, colour can vary depending on the species and age of the colony. I regarded more as a nuisance pest than anything else, however ants are known to of carried diseases, it is highly unlikely that anyone will die from an ant bite though.

Pest control for ants is never an overnight job as much like termites it is easy to kill the individual but hard to control the nest. So while putting standard sprays out for ants may kill the ants that come across it you have not controlled the colony which will keep sending more ants unless a proper ant control methods is adopted.

Some of the more common species we deal with in New South Wales would be

  • Common Black House ant (Ochetellus sp.)
  • White-Footed house ant (Technomyrmex sp.)
  • Coastal Brown ant (Pheidole megacephala)
  • Carpenter ant (Camponotus spp.)
  • Pavement ant (Tetramorium caespitum)
  • Bulldog or bull ants (Myrmecia sp.)
  • Funnel ant (Aphaenogaster pythia)
  • Garden ant (Lasius niger)
  • Ghost ant (Tapinoma melanocephalum)
  • Argentine ants (Linepithema sp.)
  • Pharaoh’s ant (Monomorium pharaonis)

When doing a ant control treatment it is best to try and game colony control this can be done by using baits or non repellent pesticides in some instances repellent pesticides can be used. quite often before the homeowner calls a pest control firm they may have tried some of these methods and they have failed this is where our training and the availability of more products and better products are able to help fix your ant problem. Most homeowners may have tried Ant Rid which may have been beneficial for a black house ant problem but will not go close to fixing a coastal Brown ant problem because they require two different types of feed. All ant treatments require time so they can get either the chemical or the bait back to the nest which can then be eradicated, unfortunately this does not happen overnight and a larger than nest the longer it will take and with some species they may have multiple nest sites which can draw the process out even longer. So if you're having an ant problem let Bugs Or Us Pest Control fix it for you.
